The U.K.-based company Viridor has acquired Adapt Recycling Ltd., an integrated recycling and waste management company that operates in the Northwestern area of the United Kingdom. The Pennon Group is the parent company of Viridor.
According to a Viridor release, the acquisition is in line with the company’s strategy of expanding its activities in the areas of recycling, waste treatment and disposal.
Adapt Recycling, headquartered in Bury, U.K., processes commingled recyclables, primarily plastics, cans and glass. The company also bales various grades of mixed paper. The company handles about 25,000 metric tons of material per year.
Commenting on the acquisition, Mark Burrows Smith, director of Viridor North says, “The U.K.’s waste strategies are demanding ever-increasing levels of recycling to meet waste targets. The Greater Manchester (U.K.) region is a key operational area in Viridor’s business, and the acquisition of Adapt Recycling in Bury will strengthen our position as a leading operator in the region.”
“Viridor’s acquisition of Adapt Recycling is a positive step forward in expanding business in the key recycling areas and we look forward to welcoming and working with our new colleagues,” Smith adds.
Simon Jones, owner of Adapt Recycling, says, “I am delighted that Viridor have been able to secure the acquisition of Adapt. This is good news for employees, customers, suppliers and all other stakeholders in the business, and will allow the business to grow.”
