Virginia Recycling Association Recognizes Trex

The Virginia Recycling Association has recognized Trex Co., based in Winchester, Va., and Frederick County Recycling for their “Plastic Bag Challenge with a 2007 Spotlight Award.

The Spotlight Award recognizes creative and innovative one-time projects, programs or events.

To celebrate America Recycles Day and to educate students on the importance of recycling, Gloria Piffinburger of Frederick County Recycling and Brandy Derry of Trex implemented a Plastic Bag Challenge in 90 classrooms throughout Virginia’s Frederick County. More than 2.2 million bags, enough to produce 987 16-foot Trex boards, were collected.

Trex and Frederick County Recycling have plans to continue and to expand the Plastic Bag Challenge in 2007.
