Wise County supervisors have approved a special use permit for a proposed scrap metal recycling facility to be built. The county supervisors approved the permit, although they included one stipulation.
David Stidham, who has been seeking the permit to open a scrap metal recycling facility in Powell Valley, Va., must put in writing that he won't allow vehicles and petroleum products at the site unless he obtains another special use permit to do so.
Stidham requested a permit to open a yard that would handle ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The company name would be D&D Scrap Metal. At one time, he had expressed an interest in dealing with junk cars in the future.
The facility that Stidham is planning on leasing has been zoned heavy industrial.
