Vetrazzo Wins Waste Reduction Award
Vetrazzo LLC, a glass recycling company based in the San Francisco area, was awarded the “Outstanding Closing the Loop Commitment” award by the California Resource Recovery Association (CRRA) at the organization’s 32nd annual conference. The award recognizes a government agency or organization that has implemented an innovative program or created a product that reduces waste or has a high recycled content.
The company uses 100 percent recycled glass to manufacture Vetrazzo, a surfacing material used in counter tops that is a sustainable alternative to granite and other quarried stone. In 2008, the company expects to recycle 1,600 tons of waste glass.
”A single panel of Vetrazzo can use up to 1,000 bottles,” says James Sheppard, president of Vetrazzo LLC. “Vetrazzo panels are a beautiful reminder of how last night’s bottles can be recycled into useful and gorgeous new products.”
