Exel, a logistics company, has extended its existing contract with the German company Verlagsunion, one of the largest magazine distributors based in Germany, to include reverse logistics. Exel will retrieve magazines, CDs, DVDs, surprise bags and toy supplements that are no longer required by retailers on Verlagsunion's behalf.
Exel manages the returns and processing of 5 million copies that are distributed across 500 different outlets. The company also manages the recycling of paper from outdated, damaged magazines and other items that can no longer be used.
Verlagsunion is a leading national magazine distributor in Germany servicing more than 240 publishers covering nearly 600 different titles. The company distributes on a large-scale to railway station booksellers and provides publishing services that span from magazine design to the strategic market placement.
