Veolia Environmental Services announced that its RECYCLEPAK program will be distributed to agencies throughout California as part of a three-year contract that Omega Pacific Electrical Supply Inc. won with the state.
Following the adoption of a new recycling law, Omega Pacific spearheaded the idea of a prepaid recycling program with the state and eventually won the bid to provide services.
"Our relationship with Omega Pacific, and now the State of California, furthers both companies' global commitment to sustainable development and to protecting public health and the environment," said John McShane, GM of Veolia ES Technical Solutions. "We are proud to be associated with such socially responsible establishments."
Early last year, California implemented a universal waste rule mandating that all mercury lamps must be recycled. Veolia’s program is a prepaid recycling program designed to take-back and properly dispose of small quantities of lighting and electronics wastes, such as fluorescent lamps, ballast, batteries, computer electronics and mercury containing items.
RECYCLEPAK ships recycling supplies to and from a customer’s facility, and processes all documentation, including certificates of recycling. The pre-paid recycling program ensures complete compliance with state and local disposal regulations while reducing the risks associated with improper storage.
"We pride ourselves on being a leader in lamp and ballast industry," said Todd Lewis, principal at Omega Pacific. "We are pleased to be providing this service to the State of California and making a positive difference in our environment along with Veolia."
