Veolia ES Solid Waste Inc., Milwaukee, Wis., has purchased five commercial collection routes in and around Lexington, Ky., from Republic Services Inc.
The routes were sold as a condition of Republic’s recent merger with Allied Waste Industries Inc. According to a Veolia news release, “These newly acquired assets will provide additional incremental volumes at existing Veolia ES Solid Waste landfills in Kentucky and are expected to generate approximately $2.2 million in annual revenue.”
Solid waste collected will be directed to the Veolia ES Morehead Landfill in Rowan County, Ky. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
“The acquisition of these assets is consistent with our strategic plan of acquiring operations that can synergize with existing collection operations and provide new disposal volume for our existing landfills,” says Jim Long, President and CEO of Veolia ES Solid Waste.
Veolia ES Solid Waste Inc., part of Veolia Environmental Services North America Corp., operates 76 collection facilities and 30 solid landfills in 12 states, the Bahamas and Canada. The company, which before being purchased by Veolia was known as Superior Waste Services and then as Onyx Waste Services, also is involved in the collection, sorting, processing and marketing of curbside recyclables.
