Veolia Acquires Two Allied Operations

Former Onyx firm increases presence in Illinois and Pennsylvania.

Veolia ES Solid Waste, formerly Onyx Waste Services, has acquired the solid waste collection, hauling and recycling operations of Allied Waste Services in Charleston, Ill. and Clarion, Pa.

“Growth through these acquisitions is an important part of Veolia’s strategic plan to expand our operations and serve more customers and communities throughout the country,” says Paul Jenks, president and CEO of Veolia ES, based in Milwaukee. “We continue to look for additional strategic opportunities to grow through acquisitions that support our business plan.”

Through the acquisitions, Veolia ES Solid Waste has acquired the Allied Waste operations based in Charleston, Ill., that serve Coles, Cumberland, Moultrie, Douglas and Shelby counties in Illinois. Waste collected from these communities will be disposed of at the local Allied Landfill.

In addition, Veolia has acquired Allied Waste’s operations in Clarion, Pa., serving Clarion, Venango, Forest and Jefferson counties in that state. Waste collected from these communities will continue to be disposed of at Allied’s County Environmental Landfill for at least one year after the acquisition.

Financial details of the acquisitions, which both closed in late August, were not disclosed.
