C&D Recycling in
The dual-shaft shredder has been up and running at C&D Recycling since October 2007 processing construction and demolition debris. According to Larry Hirsh, plant operations director at C&D Recycling, the Hurricane is processing an average of 350 to 400 tons of debris per day and is capable of processing up to 500 tons.
Vecoplan’s Hurricane shredders feature twin cutting rotors, each with a dedicated drive motor. While hydraulic motors are available, C&D Recycling chose a machine with Vecoplan’s patented HiTorc electro-magnetic pulse drive motors, according to Chris Hawn, director of business development in Vecoplan’s Waste Division.
Hirsch says his company opted for the HiTorc motors because of energy savings.
Other features on the Hurricane include: hydraulic aggregates with high torque pumps encased in sound enclosures; a center anvil with a replaceable hard faced counter knife and removable screen grates for consistent particle output size; built-in tramp metal protection; and hydraulically operated double-wing drop-down doors for easy access to the cutting chamber.
