Connecticut recycler installs new single-stream system

City Carting and Recycling, Stamford, Conn., has started up its Bollegraaf single-stream processing system. By the end of February 2014, City Carting was running its 25-to-30-tons-per-hour Bollegraaf system, supplied by Van Dyk Recycling Solutions (VDRS), Stamford, at full speed.

According to a VDRS news release, the system operates with 16 manual sorters. City Carting’s 14,000-square-foot tipping floor has ample room for the inbound residential single-stream loads and commercial material arriving at the plant. The installed system incorporates Lubo StarScreens and four TITECH Autosort models. The TITECH Autosort4 features Flying Beam technology, faster valves and no external lamps, according to VDRS.

City Carting’s system also includes a Lubo glass cleanup system and a Bollegraaf HBC 120S baler. The sorting system seeks out PET (polyethylene terephthalate), polypropylene and polyethylene plastics. Residue rates are less than 5 percent, according to VDRS.

“The craftsmanship and quality of the equipment was beyond my expectations,” says Joe Fiorello, owner of City Carting. ”It was operational on day one and performed to the manufacturer’s promise.”
