Buffalo Recycling Enterprises, Buffalo, N.Y., has started up a 25-ton-per-hour Bollegraaf single-stream system at its Hopkins Street material recovery facility (MRF) that was supplied by Van Dyk Baler Corp., Stamford, Conn.
The system features a triple-deck OCC (old corrugated container) screen, a double-deck ONP (old newspaper) screens with a glass-breaking fines screen, a fiber/container screen with air assistance, magnets to remove ferrous material and an eddy current to remove aluminum. A Bollegraaf HBC-120 baler bales all commodities the facility produces.
The system also includes three TiTech optical sorters. A TiTech PaperSort removes contamination from mixed fiber, while one TiTech PolySort uses metal detection to remove fiber from the container stream and a second optically sorts PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles.
The system includes a new controls package with touch screen, full reporting capabilities and full e-stop identification. Automated storage bunkers for all commodities also are included, as is improved stream containment to reduce material spillage.
The system uses only 12 sorters.
According to Buffalo Recycling Enterprises, “We are very pleased with the performance of the equipment. Van Dyk Baler has done an outstanding job of meeting our specific needs to make this project a reality.”
