Vanden Recycling, a plastics recycler headquartered in the United Kingdom, has established a new location in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, servicing the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.
According to a news release from Vanden Recycling, the recycling rate is less than 10 percent in that region whereas established recycling ecosystems exceed 35 percent recycling rates. With research released in 2018 finding that Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are among the world’s largest waste producers, the region is now pushing an agenda to achieve improved waste diversion rates by as early as 2021.
Vanden appointed Beril Yesilirmak to serve as the business development manager for Vanden Recycling FZCO in Dubai, and he will lead the organization’s efforts in the GCC region.
“With our extensive knowledge of polymers, markets and processes, Vanden can help the region achieve its targets,” Yesilirmak says. “Our strong belief is that plastic ‘waste’ is a commodity that creates sustainable circular supply chains means that Vanden is well-positioned to support. Opportunities in the UAE and GCC are obvious with the low recycling rates and high waste generation. It’s imperative that we increase the awareness about the importance and opportunities for plastic scrap and waste in the region with Vanden solutions.”
Vanden Recycling services plastics manufacturers, waste management and distribution businesses to recycle plastic scrap, offcuts and redundant stocks. Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), low-density polyethylene (LDPE), medium-density polyethylene (MDPE), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polycarbonate (PC), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are accepted in split loads and Vanden can offer regular collections with space-saving stillages so scrap is stored to maintain quality, safety and cleanliness.
