Van Dyk Baler Corp. recently installed its first large single stream sorting system on the east coast at Tidewater Fibre Corp.’s Chester, Va., location. The patented Starscreen® system, manufactured by Lubo USA, enables Tidewater Fibre to handle single stream recyclables at a rate of 22 tons per hour, six times faster than before.
The Lubo system is a perfect fit for Tidewater’s wide variety of infeed. In addition to producing clean newspaper and mixed paper, the system also separates plastic grades, ferrous, aluminum, and glass. Responding to low market prices for glass Van Dyk also installed a glass breaker as part of the system. The system immediately breaks all glass into a 3-color broken glass fraction, resulting in faster processing of plastic containers and less manual labor.
The facility’s grand opening will take place on October 19.
