Van Dyk, one of the leading distributors of single stream processing equipment, ended the winter season with the installation of five single stream systems across the United States.
Far West Fibers of Oregon purchased Lubo equipment to upgrade existing sorting systems in two locations to single stream systems. At its Hillsboro location, four screens were installed to separate incoming loads. The OCC screen, Double ONP screen and fines screen will help Far West significantly increase productivity
Also on the West Coast, Van Dyk Baler completed Bollegraaf single stream installations at SP Newsprint, Portland, OR, a large scale system with a Bollegraaf HBC 80 baler; and City Fibers in Los Angeles. The City Fibers facility will process 20-30 tons per hour of single stream.
For Waste Management, two Bollegraaf single stream installations were completed at WM Santa Rosa, Napa Valley, Calif., and on the East Coast at WM York in Pennsylvania.
Bollegraaf and Lubo products were both pioneers in single stream processing and have dozens of Single Stream Systems in operation. Some of the benefits to single stream recycling are lower collection costs and higher diversion rates due to easier participation by the homeowner, one tipping floor, and one residue stream. Municipalities and waste haulers are taking an in-depth look at single stream recycling as a way of streamlining collection and processing to reduce overall operating costs of their recycling programs.
