Salt Lake County has applied to the Department of Community and Economic Development for a Recycling Market Development Zone, an economic development tool that encourages the relocation, expansion, or start-up of recycling-based businesses within the zone.
Businesses within an RMDZ zone qualify for a five percent tax credit on their investment or a 20 percent tax credit on operating expenses, with a maximum of $2,000 on the latter. In addition, technical assistance is available from state recycling and economic development professionals.
The location being considered in the county is not a large section of the county, according to a spokesman for the Utah Department of Community and Economic Development.
