US Steel donates $1M to Mississippi County, Arkansas, organizations

Pittsburgh-based United States Steel Corp., through the company’s Big River Works facilities, has presented $1 million in donations to organizations in the city of Osceola, Arkansas, and Mississippi County, Arkansas. U.S. Steel says these donations are expected to help equip these communities by strengthening infrastructure and essential services.

The Pittsburgh-based steelmaker presented grants to community organizations at a check-presentation ceremony Sept. 7 at the Mississippi County Courthouse. One of the company’s donations is a $425,000 grant to relocate the South Mississippi County Regional Medical Center’s emergency room, which was damaged by flooding, and help the center to buy life-saving equipment and construct a helipad. Other donations from U.S. Steel include:

• a $405,000 donation to provide new equipment for Osceola’s police, firefighters, city services and first responders;
• an $80,000 donation to fund a program for at-risk youth by the Arkansas Northeast College Foundation;
• a $30,000 donation for the Mississippi County Community Foundation and a $30,000 donation to the Mississippi County Arkansas Economic Opportunity Commission to serve the broader community; and
• a $20,000 grant to improve Luxora Park.
