US Shredder Sees Increase in Turnkey Projects

The US Shredder and Castings Group, Trussville, Ala., has reported that its turnkey installation projects have increased significantly over the last 8 months. The company notes that four projects, with equipment values ranging from $1.2 million to $3.6 million, recently have been engineered, installed and commissioned. In response to the increase, the company has doubled the amount of personnel involved in system installation.

The company reports that an internal market study and analysis of what shredder operators consider to be the biggest issues when installing equipment found that cost overruns was the largest concern.

Systems Project Manager Chris Melenick says, “Most companies simply offer the equipment loads, electrical requirements, etc., and then offer supervision at installation time. All we ask the customer to supply is a site survey at the facility. From there we do the civil engineering, concrete pad design, electrical conduit plan, construction and mechanical installation of equipment. We can do as much or as little as they need us to do. We give them a guaranteed quote for the project and when we’ve completed the install, we hand them the keys. It gives a big advantage to a customer that is seeking financing to know he has a firm number on all aspects of the project.”

US Shredder also reports that its specialized modular systems have been successful as well. The company installs the electrical, hydraulic, motor and drive systems in specially designed containers and ships them to customer sites ready to be powered, saving additional time and expense.
