U.S. Shredder Holds Ohio Open House

August event allowed scrap recyclers to see the 7090 shredder model up close.

The U.S. Shredder and Castings Group, Trussville, Ala., hosted an open house in Youngstown, Ohio, Aug. 23 and 24 to display its 7090 Heavy Duty Shredder as well as its assembly plant capabilities.

The shredder was designed specifically to compete with 6085 models in regard to price, says U.S. Shredder President Bill Tigner. The 7090’s rotor provides up to 30 percent more hammer impact and is 12 percent wider than 6085 models, he adds.

The advantages provided by those features include the ability to shred thicker scrap and extended longevity of the shredder, Tigner says. “The basic size of the 6085 is primarily the problem. The strength and durability of our rotor will eliminate many of the maintenance and service issues associated with smaller, lighter shredders. Our new shredder will give operators advantages they have not had to date. Scrap processors have been amazed that we can produce such a heavy shredder at a similar investment as the smaller 6085.”

Tigner says U.S. Shredder engineers worked closely with the company’s fabrication team to build a bigger, heavier shredder with a design that allows the shredder to be built at the cost of the smaller competitive models.

The open house event took place at the company’s shredder assembly plant, which is operated in conjunction with Youngstown-based Boltech. The 160,000-square-foot facility will allow the company ample space to completely assemble its line of shredders and rotors before shipment to the customer, Tigner says. The new facility is U.S. Shredder’s second manufacturing facility. The company shares a 50,000-square-foot conveyor and structural plant with its sister company, U.S. Conveyor Technologies, in Mackinaw, Ill.

The U.S. Shredder and Castings Group offers scrap shredders, control systems, downstream systems, nonferrous recovery, air systems, scrap shears, balers and loggers as well as shredder castings, service, engineering and consulting to the worldwide scrap industry.
