The US Shredder and Castings Group has introduced a new shredder hammer for automobile shredder applications. The hammer is a "differentially hardened hammer" and is available for all shredder models and sizes. The hammer is ideal for operations that cannot properly work harden a manganese hammer. Unlike a traditional alloy hammer which is the same hardness throughout the hammer, the differentially hardened hammer is softer around the pinhole area and saves life on the hammer pin.
Bill Tigner, president of US Shredder and Castings Group, said, "These hammers definitely take more expertise to produce than a traditional hammer, but we worked closely with our foundries to develop a technique that saves time and money over what is currently being supplied. Most of these type products currently come from Europe and tend to be more expensive. Extensive tests in the field have verified equal or better results than the more expensive competitive hammer."
