Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman, Owego, N.Y., reports that work at the company’s recently acquired Scranton, Pa., site is near completion, with work on the site to be done by June 2011.
“In keeping with company policy, everything associated with our new location in Scranton, as with all Upstate Shredding – Ben Weitsman locations, are paid for without asking for the benefit of tax incentives or subsidies,” says Adam Weitsman, president of Upstate Shredding and its Ben Weitsman sister company. “We understand that local governments are especially hurting in this adverse economic climate and, as a profitable company, it has always been our policy to make a positive impact in the communities where we operate, both economically and socially.”
The company acquired the land for the Scranton site in March 2011. Total investment at the site is expected to be around $6 million.
The company is grading, installing base grades and paving the new scrap metal recycling operational facility. The company is also painting and remodeling existing buildings on the property, as well as erecting new buildings, including a metals warehouse. The company also is erecting new fences and will be landscaping the facility. The company notes that the updating is in line with Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman’s good neighbor policy, which ensures that the new facility is a positive addition to the neighborhood.
The company also purchased new truck scales, cranes, loaders, metal shears, trucks, roll-off containers and other scrap metal processing equipment. The company also notes that the facility will adhere to strict environmental protection standards, including storm water controls and other environmentally friendly practices.
