Adam Weitsman, owner of Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman, headquartered in Owego, N.Y., has announced that Teresa Rogers has joined the company as a senior buyer for all Upstate and Ben Weitsman facilities.
Weitsman says, “Teresa is integral to our growth plan and expanding our footprint. Her extensive experience and outstanding industry accomplishments will be a huge asset as she joins our team of some of the most experienced buyers in the industry. Teresa will handle buying for Upstate’s mega-shredder operation in Owego, N.Y., all Ben Weitsman yards throughout New York and Pennsylvania, and the new port facility located in Albany, N.Y.”
Rogers formerly was director of trading for Mervis Industries. In that position she bought, sold and brokered scrap throughout the Midwest. Prior to that she was vice president of scrap trading at the Chicago-based recycling firm Consolidated Mill Supply. Prior to that, Rogers was a broker for ProTrade Steel, based in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Upstate also notes that it is continuing construction at its new Albany port facility and retail scrap operation. The new location is expected to add 30 jobs at start up and a total of 60 when it is fully operational, the company says.
“Our new port facility is scheduled to be operational by May 2013. It will occupy an 18-acre site capable of loading 30,000-ton vessels to service export markets and have two rail lines to serve domestic customers,” Weitsman says.
"Teresa will purchase and broker ferrous and nonferrous scrap metal for our New York and Pennsylvania operations as well as from our many customers in the Northeast and Midwest," he adds.
