The Newark Valley, N.Y., Fire District announced that it has received a donation from Adam Weitsman, president of Upstate Shredding LLC. The donation will allow the district fire department to purchase an innovative fire extinguisher training system.
“This is going to help the community fire education and fire prevention program for organizations in Newark Valley and surrounding areas of Tioga County. It’s going to help businesses and schools meet OSHA employee training requirements and also provide training for over a dozen fire departments throughout Tioga County,” says James Van Nordstrand, Newark Valley firefighter and member of the Fire District’s community fire education group.
“We had been trying through all channels to get federal or state grants and were not successful because of cutbacks. I approached Adam Weitsman and told him the concept, and he felt it was worthy of a donation. We are very grateful for this generous donation. It means a tremendous amount to us because it allows us to expand our fire prevention training program,” says Van Nordstrand.
In March, Upstate Shredding made a donation of more than $10,000 to the Village of Owego Fire Department to purchase Globe G-Xtreme firefighting suits.
