Upstate Shredding Adds Sorting Power

Huron Valley system installed in Owego, N.Y.

Upstate Shredding LLC of Owego, N.Y., is now running a nonferrous metals recovery system downstream from its auto shredding plant.

The system provided by Huron Valley Steel Corp., Belleville, Mich., incorporates three Mark V eddy current machines and can process between 75 and 85 tons per hour of nonferrous material.

According to Upstate Shredding president Adam Weitsman, the system will process both accumulated material and the output from the company’s Newell Industries MegaShredder, which produces about 35,000 tons per month of ferrous scrap.

“Huron Valley Steel is one of the most professional companies we have ever done business with, from installation, customer service and as a home for our nonferrous residue,” says Weitsman. “Currently, the recovery system is processing a staggering 1,000 tons per day.”
