Untha Introduces Newest Shredder

Untha, Kuchl, Austria, will be introducing the RS150, a four-shaft shredder, at the company’s UNTHA Recycling Days, May 25-26. The company says that the RS150 is its largest four-shaft shredder and was developed for extreme applications requiring high throughput, availability and low operating costs.

The company’s newly developed UNTHA torque drive is the key for the new shredder. The drive concept ensures that the cutting shafts are stopped immediately when foreign materials enter the system to prevent damage of the cutting tools. Additionally, the drive makes frequent reversing possible, which, the company notes, is important when shredding problematic materials.

Because of the varying speed of the cutting shafts’ rotation, the throughput can be adapted to the material to be shredded. In contrast to high-speed systems the drive works without wear parts such as couplings, belts, shear bolts or fly wheels, reducing its susceptibility to failures to a minimum.
