Universal Engineering Opening In Iowa

Cooperation between Universal Engineering and the state of Iowa, as well as assistance from other local organizations, is helping the company to open.

Universal Engineering Corp. announced that it is opening its operations in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In a press conference at the Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce, the city and owners of the company announced a plan that would provide incentives based on employment growth that will allow Universal to create 34 jobs in the city.

Universal Engineering Corp. was legally incorporated April 19, 2002. It is owned by Daniel Ferguson, CEO, and Thomas Werning, CFO. The formation of the company followed the closing of the Cedar Rapids plant of Metso Minerals.

Contingent on financing and assistance from the state’s Community Economic Betterment Account program, Universal will purchase some assets from Metso Minerals and start operations June 3. The company will design and manufacture aggregate and mining equipment and parts.
