The Philadelphia location of Cicero, Illinois-based United Scrap Metal has achieved Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) STAR Facility Accreditation from that association. GBAC is a division of Northbrook, Illinois-based ISSA, a global trade association for the cleaning industry.
The United Scrap Metal location was among a list of 14 properties recently STAR accredited, making a list that also includes: Chase Center, the San Francisco home of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, in San Francisco t; the Dubai Mall in the United Arab Emirates; the Palace Hotel in Tokyo; and the Phoenix Convention Center.
“No matter where a facility is located, GBAC STAR’s program elements can help organizations establish cleaning and disinfection practices that help prevent the spread of infectious disease,” says ISSA Executive Director John Barrett. The organization says some 40 facilities worldwide have now obtained the certification.
ISSA describes GBAC STAR as “the cleaning industry’s only outbreak prevention, response, and recovery accreditation for all types of facilities, including retail, stadiums and arenas, hotels, restaurants, commercial, and more.”
United Scrap Metal, whose founder and CEO Marsha Serlin is one of 15 inductees to the inaugural class of the Women in Manufacturing Association (WiM) Hall of Fame, operates facilities in Cicero and in Charlotte, North Carolina; Indianapolis, Indiana; Philadelphia; Richmond, Virginia; and St. Louis.
