Unisphere Waste Conversion announced several recent steps the company has taken to boost the profitability of its recycled tires. One of the steps, the company says, could bring around $5 million a year to the company.
Last month, the Toronto-based firm completed the acquisition of two tire shredders from Columbus McKinnon. One is already in operation, while the second is being commissioned.
Each unit, capable of producing 160 metric tons a day, will be operated in Ontario for a short test period before going into regular operation in St-Chrysostome, Que.
Targeted daily production from the two units is 320 metric tons, and the initial shipment to Buffalo Fuels in New York is to occur this month. A shipment of 100 tons per day to Buffalo Fuels will generate an annual revenue stream of $5 million.
Unisphere also said it has completed its first shipment of 550 "anti-fatigue" mats to Norwell Dairy Systems Ltd. in Drayton, Ont., for dairy barn installations. And industrial anti-fatigue mats are being shipped to Tycos, the tooling division of Decoma International, for installation at work stations next to machinery.
Unisphere is also promoting crumb rubber for artificial turf installations. "FieldTurf of Montreal has just received the initial 453,000-kilogram shipment for this application," the company said.
