Metals Recycler Looks to Open Yard in Ulster, N.Y.

Company appeared before town board to present proposal for scrap metal recycling facility.

Millens Recycling, based in Kingston, N.Y., has announced it appeared before the Ulster, N.Y. Town Board on Feb. 18 in regards to its proposal to build a scrap metal recycling facility in the city.

The company is looking to establish a recycling center on a 39-acre site, consisting of an 84,500-square-foot processing facility, a 10,000-square-foot office building, a 3,600-square-foot maintenance mechanical storage building and a 2,500-square-foot UARC metal processing program building. The proposed facility also will have a scale house, parking, access driveways and other site improvements. The company will only use 11 acres of the land for the metals recycling operations.

In its submissions to the city, Millens anticipates an average of around 75 customers per day will be delivering material to the site.

The site where the company is looking to build the scrap facility is zoned for office manufacturing, which includes recycling yards. However, in its scoping documents, the town notes that since construction will involve more than 2,500 square feet, it retains the authority to approve the site plan application.
