Several recycling and recycling-related companies were recently recognized with the Queens Award for Enterprise, one of the highest honors bestowed upon companies operating in the United Kingdom.
The award recognizes and rewards outstanding achievement by UK
companies. They are presented in three separate categories:
International Trade - recognizing companies that have demonstrated growth in overseas earnings.
Innovation - recognizing companies that have demonstrated commercial success through innovative products or services.
Sustainable Development - recognizing companies that have integrated environmental, social, economic and management aspects of sustainable development into their business. The awards are made each year by The Queen, on the advice of the Prime Minister, who is assisted by an Advisory Committee that includes representatives of Government, industry and commerce, and the trade unions.
Under the International Trade category, the following recycling companies were recognized: Fintec Crushing & Screening Ltd., which provides mobile crushing and screening equipment plus mobile concrete block machines; John Lawrie Ltd., a scrap metal recycling and trading company; and RJH Trading Ltd., which is involved in nonferrous metals, scrap, minor metals, ferroalloys, plastics and paper trading;
For innovation, the awards went to Balcan Engineering Ltd., which is a waste lamp recycling plant; ELG Haniel Metals Ltd., which serves the stainless steel scrap market; and EnviroSystems Ltd., which produces animal bedding using recycled newsprint.
