DS Smith’s UK Paper division, St Regis, has announced the proposed closure of its Sudbrook Mill in Monmouthshire, UK. The mill produces about 150,000 metric tons of fluting paper a year. The mill is expected to close by the end of this May.
The company cited high energy costs as the reason for the closure. The company notes that the mill has seen its annual energy costs double over the past three years.
The mill uses a significant amount of old corrugated containers, as well as other recovered fiber, for its raw material intake.
