The waste management firm Veolia, based in Paris, has signed a three-year agreement with Siemens United Kingdom worth close to £6 million (US$9.66 million) to provide recycling and treatment services covering discarded commercial, industrial and hazardous materials.
The contract, which is designed to provide recycling and waste management services for all Siemens UK’s waste streams, is divided over four contracted lots with Veolia supplying recycling and treatment services for up to 90 Siemens manufacturing sites and office locations in the U.K.
The contract will include recycling and waste collection to on- and offshore wind power sites, predominantly in Scotland.
Veolia says recycling of exotic metals from Siemens’ manufacturing and maintenance plants that design, build and service industrial turbo-machinery is at the heart of adding value to its service offering.
Estelle Brachlianoff, Veolia’s senior executive vice president, UK and Ireland, says, “Clearly we share a common interest with Siemens in environmental thought leadership, the circular economy and the future of urban sustainability.
“This far-sighted contract utilizes our fully integrated environmental services offering and will enable Siemens to take a holistic approach to its varied waste streams and treat them in a sustainable way, particularly by reusing more of the materials they produce.
