Computer-Recycling.co.uk, the computer recycling division of Preston Recycling, located in Preston, Lancishire, UK, has been grown so rapidly since its formation two years ago that it has been forced to move out of its original location to join the company's scrap metals division.
Until the move, the computer recyclers had shared a depot with Preston Recycling's scrap vehicles arm, Autobreakers.co.uk, but with a rapid increase in the need to dispose of large amounts of computers safely and environmentally, it became clear the company had to move.
Its arrival at Red Scar has caused Preston Recycling an added problem of taking up 50,000 sq ft of the site, meaning that another expansion to another site on the industrial estate could be imminent.
Preston Recycling managing director Charles Jackson said: "We are always looking to expand and, in doing so, improving the environment and the amount of staff and the quality of training they are provided with, but it is important to understand it is controlled growth.
"We have been growing by acquisition in recent years and with new innovations coming up in the recycling industry all the time we need to ensure there we have an infrastructure in place to deal with it."
Two new 10,000 sq ft aircraft hanger-style buildings have already been constructed to house the computer recycling operation line and that is expected to be brought up to 50,000 sq ft by next month.
Business development manager Dave Allen said: "Computer Recycling started out as a small operation within the company employing just two people to collect and recycle equipment that local businesses and public sector organizations wanted to discard.
"In less than two years, our workforce has risen to eight and we share a further seven with other parts of the business as well as acting as an outsourced warehousing facility for large multi-site companies, office relocation specialists and other organizations that want to store or transport working ICT equipment.
