Under this national agreement, which according to Safety-Kleen is the first of its kind, the company will be the only authorized national company to provide oil collection and re-refining for more than 1.5 million gallons of motor oil; parts cleaning and solvent disposal services; containerized waste management, including oil filter recycling and disposal of absorbent materials; and vacuum services for separators, drains and trenches.
Safety-Kleen will service approximately 750 postal facilities that generate hazardous and other regulated wastes. These locations support more than 37,000 individual offices across the United States. The U.S. Postal Service is the third-largest employer in the United States (after the Defense Department and Wal-Mart) and operates the largest civilian vehicle fleet in the world, according to a press release from Safety-Kleen. More than 200,000 postal trucks and vans travel 1 billion miles annually.
Mike Fraser, Safety-Kleen vice president of national accounts and international sales, says the USPS will receive safe and consistent waste management services by consolidating with Safety-Kleen, while also reducing costs and improving operational standards. "We're also ISO 14001 certified, which will give the postal service greater confidence in the areas of regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship," he adds.
Safety-Kleen, a privately held company, is a leading parts cleaner, industrial waste management and oil recycling and re-refining company in North America, with approximately 4,500 employees serving hundreds of thousands of customers in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
