Tube City IMS Corp., Pittsburgh, has announced that several of its sites have received a total of 58 Safety Awards from the National Slag Association (NSA) for 2009.
In addition, three Tube City IMS employees received NSA’s Best Practices Awards, and one employee was the winner of the NSA safety slogan contest, according to a release.
The NSA says that its Safety Awards have been designed to recognize superior performance as measured against Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordable injury rates. The awards were presented to Tube City during the NSA’s fall meeting.
Since joining the NSA in 2005, Tube City IMS has earned more than 175 Safety Awards.

The company’s operation in Claymont, Del., received three awards: “2009 Most Improved Job Sites for Safety;” and two awards for “Lowest Incident Rate” for employees.
Tube City’s Gary, Ind., operations also received three safety awards: one for “Job Sites with at Least 200,000 Hours since the Last Recordable Accident;” and two for “Lowest Incident Rate” for employees.
Operations in Middletown, Ohio; Belle Vernon, Pa.; Beaumont, Tex.; Puebla, Mexico; and Port of Spain, Trinidad, each received two safety awards: one for “Job Sites with at Least 200,000 Hours since the Last Recordable Accident;” and another for “Lowest Incident Rate” for employees.
Company sites in Canada receiving safety awards for “Lowest Incident Rate” for employees were: Selkirk, Man.; L’Original, Hamilton and Nanticoke, Ont.; and Regina, Sask.
Company operations in the U.S. receiving safety awards for “Lowest Incident Rate” for employees were:

In addition, Tube City IMS employees Hank Hurt, mechanic at its Claymont operation; Bob Rouire, superintendent at the Axis, Ala., site; and Kevin Shire, superintendent at the Tuscaloosa, Ala., operation, each won an NSA Best Practices Award in Innovation.
Finally, Matthew Lindemulder, operations supervisor at Tube City’s Portage operation was one of two winners for the NSA’s 2011 safety slogan.
