Tube City IMS Corp. announced that three operations have passed ISO 9001:2000 quality system surveillance audits. The facilities retain their quality system certification.
The company’s Tube City division facilities in Fairfield, AL, and Mansfield, OH, will retain their quality system certifications from Steel Related Industries Quality System Registrar, Inc., of Pittsburgh, PA. The Fairfield, AL, facility has been ISO 9001:2000 certified since March 12, 2001. The Mansfield, Ohio, operation has been ISO 9001:2000 certified since January 13, 2004.
Surface conditioning at the company’s IMS Division facility in Middletown, OH, will retain its quality system certification from Eagle Registration of Dayton, OH. The Middletown, OH, operation has been ISO 9001:2000 certified since April 3, 2000.
Tube City IMS Corp. also said that it is pleased with its mercury removal program at its Mifflin, PA, processing plant.
Although the Tube City Division began formal participation in Pennsylvania's new voluntary Mercury-Containing Automobile Switch Removal Program in the summer of 2006, the Company initiated a "Zero Mercury" program to train, notify suppliers and reject mercury-containing scrap years earlier.
"We are pleased with our progress at the West Mifflin operation, but we really plan to ramp up our efforts in 2007," said Joseph Curtin, president and COO of Tube City IMS, Tube City Division. "We are proud to participate in this important effort by the state to remove mercury from the steel scrap supply. It's a great feeling to know that we are playing a vital role to ensure that all of us have a safe environment in which to live. Commitment to an important program such as this will reap dividends in the form of a cleaner environment tomorrow."
