Tube City Earns Slovakian Scrap Contract
Tube City Inc., Glassport, Pa., is now managing all scrap activities for U. S. Steel’s facility in Košice, Slovakia.
“Quality scrap management will improve steel quality, reduce the time required to charge scrap to our facilities and reduce our production cost,” says John H. Goodish, president of U.S. Steel Košice.
Goodish says Tube City Inc. and its “special scrap management software will improve the overall efficiency of steel making at U.S. Steel Košice. Our alliance with Tube City, Inc. will allow us to purchase high quality scrap from new suppliers throughout eastern, central and western Europe.”
The Kosice facility produces several steel products in the sizable complex, including production of up to 350,000 metric tons per year of steel can sheet.
Tube City Inc. founded in 1926, brokers and processes more than six million tons of scrap annually. The company’s customers include major steelmakers in the U.S., including long-term contracts for scrap management for U. S.
