Trinseo, a global materials company and manufacturer of plastics based in Wayne, Pennslyvania, has released its fiscal year 2024 sustainability and corporate social responsibility report, titled “Tides of Change.”

Detailed in the report is the company’s continued commitment to driving sustainability across its operations, guided by its 2030 sustainability goals. In 2024, Trinseo says it achieved five of its 17 goals in the categories of supplier responsibility, responsible operations and climate change.

However, the company says it still continues to pursue progress in the areas of supplier due diligence, water reduction, Scope 3 emissions management and on-site renewable energy sourcing.

“At Trinseo, our mission remains steadfast: to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions that create value for our customers and support the transition toward a more circular future,” Trinseo President and CEO Frank Bozich says. “I’m optimistic that we are well-positioned to chart a course toward a stronger future.”

The company reports it also made strategic advancements in its sustainable product portfolio. The company launched its first chemical recycling demonstration facility dedicated to the depolymerization of acrylic solutions in Rho, Italy, last year, followed by the opening of its acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) dissolution pilot facility in Terneuzen, Netherlands. Trinseo says these advanced recycling technologies are instrumental in expanding the range of materials that can be recycled, which help deliver consistent, quality feedstocks to the company’s business segments.

Trinseo says these advances build upon its portfolio of recycling technologies—mechanical recycling and polystyrene (PS) and polycarbonate dissolution—and contribute to building a circular economy.

“Our collective efforts place sustainability at the heart of our innovation, operations, partnerships and business model,” says Han Hendriks, chief technology and sustainability officer at Trinseo. “Guided by our 2030 sustainability goals and core values, we are innovating not only our products but also our approach to materials solutions.”

According to Trinseo, additional report highlights include:

SENNEBOGEN 340G telehandler improves the view in Macon County, NC

An elevated cab is one of several features improving operational efficiency at the Macon County Solid Waste Management agency in North Carolina. When it comes to waste management, efficiency, safety and reliability are priorities driving decisions from day one, according to staff members of the Macon County Solid Waste Management Department in western North Carolina. The agency operates a recycling plant in a facility originally designed to bale incoming materials. More recently, the building has undergone significant transformations centered around one machine: a SENNEBOGEN telehandler (telescopic handler).

  • Enhancing its 2030 supplier responsibility goal to broaden its impact by focusing on the environmental footprint and spending influence of both direct and indirect suppliers.
  • Finalizing its Scope 3 emissions data and receiving limited assurance from ERM CVS, an independent third-party assurance provider, verifying the company’s inventory. Moving forward, Trinseo says this data will set a baseline for its Scope 3 emissions initiatives in partnership with its suppliers and value chain.
  • Surpassing its research and development (R&D) target, with 78 percent of its technology and innovation/R&D efforts directed toward circular economy solutions. Supported by the company’s dissolution and depolymerization technologies, Trinseo says material solutions like recycled polymethyl methacrylate and polycarbonate resins aim to support industry efforts to transition toward a circular economy.

Trinseo says its report was prepared with reference to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) 2021 Universal Standards, and it incorporates the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) framework. To provide stakeholders with a “holistic understanding of its value creation,” the company says it also has published a core impact report.
