Tri-R Recycling completed the sale of its Colorado-based recycling division to Recycle America Alliance March 24th. The sale of the recycling division follows Tri-R’s sale of the Tri-R Shredding to Cintas late last year, leaving the Colorado-based company with its Data Guard and Secondary Fiber businesses, according to David Powelson with Tri-R. The Data Guard business operates some of the Internet-based businesses such as Ship n Shred and Shop n Shred. Secondary Fiber is a brokerage operation.
The sale of these two large divisions of the company come as both the recycling and shredding business undertake significant consolidation, making the market much more challenging.
According to Powelson, the opportunities provided by both Cintas and RAA were too great to walk away from. For Cintas, which has been moving aggressively into the shredding business, Powelson feels that Cintas’ acquisition of Tri-R’s shredding and document destruction business is the largest shredding operation they have every acquired.
