Toxco Inc has begun a national program to collect used batteries and electronics via a prepaid box program to be marketed as “The Big Green Box.” Tosco is an international battery management company located in Anaheim, Calif. The company operates battery recycling facilities in California, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Canada.
The program targets household alkaline batteries, rechargeable batteries, cellular telephones, and other wireless equipment.
The program integrates all aspects of battery and electronic waste management into the cost of the box. One payment includes the shipping of The Big Green Box to participating companies, returning the box to the processing facility; recycling of materials and providing reports to companies that want to track their waste generation.
The Big Green Box container has a 43-pound storage capacity and is UN approved; labeled for material identification and comes with a pre-paid UPS automatic return service label for return shipping.
Customers in the U.S. government can order a special Big Green Box from the Government Services Administration (GSA) catalog. The GSA version is for shipping batteries only, without microelectronic devices.
All customers can order the Big Green Box online at www.biggreenbox.com or by calling 714-879-2076 and asking for David Miller, program manager.
