Total Reclaim, an electronics recycling company based in Seattle, has announced that after months of developing and implementing a comprehensive environmental management system (EMS), it has successfully completed the ISO 14001:2004 certification process.
The certification was conducted by NSF International, an independent consulting firm based in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The EMS that Total Reclaim has implemented enables the company to systematically identify the ways it could adversely impact the environment, take measures to avoid environmental harm and evaluate its success in meeting environmental goals, according to the company.
By conforming to the ISO standard, Total Reclaim says it has committed to continually improving the processes it uses to manage and recycle millions of pounds of electronic devices each year.
In 2009, Total Reclaim says it was certified by a third-party auditor as a Preferred Processor of Electronics for the E-Cycle Washington electronics recycling program (www.ecyclewashington.org).
“Obtaining ISO 14001 certification represents a major milestone for our company,” says Craig Lorch, vice president and co-owner of Total Reclaim. “It demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement in our recycling programs to better serve our clients and limit their liability, safeguard our employees and protect the environment.”
