Tomra receives visit from Norwegian prime minister

Norwegian leader visits Tomra plant in Slovakia.

Erna Solberg, the prime minister of Norway, visited Tomra Sorting Solutions’ 12,600-square-metre (135,600-square-foot) manufacturing and distribution facility near Bratislava in Senec, Slovakia, in mid-August 2016.

The prime minister was accompanied at the facility by the ambassador of the Slovakian embassy in Norway, František Kašický, and a delegation from the Norwegian embassy in Slovakia. During her visit, the prime minister was given a presentation on Tomra and Tomra Sorting Solutions by the company’s president and CEO, Stefan Ranstrand, and the head of operations and production, Martin Hypký, as well as a guided tour of the €10 million ($11.3 million) manufacturing plant.

Commenting on her visit, Prime Minister Erna Solberg said, “I am very impressed with the production facility in Slovakia and the use of technology at Tomra.”

The Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM)-certified facility, which opened in October 2014, incorporates sustainable design techniques, such as LED lighting, according to Tomra. The facility employs more than 230 people who together produce around 1,200 sorting systems each year based on 30 different machine types.

“It is an honour for us to show our Slovakian operation to the Prime Minister of Norway, Erna Solberg,” remarks TOMRA’s Stefan Ranstrand. “What started as an innovation out of a garage in Asker [Norway] in 1972, has developed into today’s Tomra, a leading provider of sensor-based solutions and a significant contributor towards obtaining, using, and re-using valuable resources in an optimal way.

“We are happy with our modern, purpose-built facility in Senec,” adds Ranstrand. “It fits well with our strategy to optimise our own efforts and resources and is ideally located for supplying our large Central European markets as well as overseas. We are very pleased with the productivity, quality and continuous improvements, indicating the good skill set and professional attitude of the team.”
