Tire Recycler Eyes South Carolina

Tire recycler expected to build location in Clarendon County, S.C.

Clarendon County, S.C. could soon be the site of a $3 million investment by a tire recycling company.

East Coast Industrial Services Inc., a new company that aims to convert scrap tires into tire-derived fuel, could soon be moving some its operations to Clarendon.

Officials with the state Department of Commerce would not comment on the project, although an official announcement was expected to be made by the week of April 8.

“On behalf of Governor Hodges and the Department of Commerce, I want to inform you that East Coast Industrial Services, Inc., has committed to a $3 million investment in Clarendon County,” the letter dated April 2 states, according to local press reports.

News of the proposed investment comes three months after the Wells Lamont manufacturing plant in Manning announced it would be closing its operation.

In January, officials with the plant announced the Manning facility, which had been in operation since 1972, would be closed and the rain gear products manufactured or distributed at the plant would be discontinued from the company’s catalogs.
