The Thailand-based company Thoresen Thai Agencies Public Company Limited has announced that it has sold for scrap the M.V. Thor Wind, one of its open hatch bulk carrier vessels, to Murali Maritime Inc. for slightly more than $2.8 million. The sale took place on behalf of Thoresen’s wholly owned subsidiary Thoresen Shipping Singapore Pte. Ltd.
Following the sale of the vessel, the Thoresen fleet will consist of 21 vessels with an average size of 52,078 deadweight tons (DWT) and an average age of 11.60 years.
Thoresen Thai Agencies notes that the sale is in line with prevailing dry bulk shipping conditions in which older vessels become less competitive and less able to meet operating costs. The proceeds from the sale of the M.V. Thor Wind is in line with Thoresen Thai Agencies’ strategy to improve the efficiency of its fleet and its fleet renewal program.
