Kaiseraugst, Switzerland-based Thommen Group has announced the appointment of two co-managing directors and the appointment of a new head of material flow management that will take effect this March 1.
The company, which operates metals, batteries and electronics recycling companies under the Thommen, Metallum and Immark brands, says the decision reflects its sustained growth of in recent years, driven in part by acquisitions.
Under the new organizational structure, Georges Janett and Philippe Scherer will assume the roles of co-managing directors of Thommen Switzerland. “In this capacity, they will jointly lead the Swiss Thommen companies and work in close coordination with the group executive board,” states the company.
In addition to operating in Switzerland, Thommen also has locations and offices in Belgium, Germany, Italy and China.
Thommen describes Janett as bringing more than 20 years of experience in the recycling industry to the role. He began at Thommen in Kaiseraugst with an apprenticeship as a recycler and “has continuously progressed within the group,” says the company. Most recently he led the Thommen Group’s operations in western Switzerland.
Scherer has senior management experience gained in a range of industries, including the finance, automotive and food sectors, says Thommen.
He has served as CEO of the Switzerland-based Wiederkehr Group since 2023, the same year it was acquired by Thommen.
“Together with Georges Janett, Philippe Scherer will play a key role in shaping and further developing the Thommen brand in Switzerland going forward,” states the company.
Thommen Group also has announced the appointment of Armin Huhn as its head of material flow management, describing him as a well-established leader in the waste management sector since 1991.
In previous management roles, Huhn has focused on the development and operation of sorting facilities and “driven the creation of innovative recycling and energy recovery solutions across a broad range of material streams,” says Thommen.
The LinkedIn profile for Armin Huhn indicates he may have worked previously for equipment and technology producers Veritec AG and Altola AG, with both companies based in Switzerland.
With the appointment of Huhn, Thommen Group says it is “deliberately strengthening its group-wide material flow management—one of the key levers for efficiency, value creation and the scalable expansion of its circular economy models.”
