Thermostat Recycling Corp.(TRC), Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, has appointed Janet Tirado its director of marketing and communications, effective immediately.
The TRC was founded in 1998 as an industry funded nonprofit. It is supported by 29 manufacturers that have branded and sold mercury thermostats in the United States.
According to the TRC, with the industry-funded nonprofit's move of its corporate headquarters to the Greater Philadelphia region last month, Tirado's prior experiences working in Pennsylvania state and local government made her the logical choice.
"Janet is a highly regarded communications expert who possesses a wealth of experience in government and nonprofits," says Ryan Kiscaden, TRC executive director. "She has a proven track record as an agent of change and a laser-focused vision on how to take TRC where it needs to be in the next five years."
"The TRC and its board of directors have been quietly ridding the environment of tons of mercury contaminants for nearly two decades," says Tirado. "Their accomplishments, thus far, are nothing short of astonishing. Now, I am excited to do my part to protect our environment, our citizens and future generations from being adversely impacted by these toxins through my work with this great organization."
With a network of more than 3,600 collection sites nationwide, the agency has recovered more than 2.1 million thermostats to date. All costs to transport and properly dispose of recovered thermostats are assumed by TRC.
