Thermo Fisher Scientific Showcases Handheld Niton XRF Analyzer with Large Area Drift Detector

Niton XL3t analyzer with GOLDD technology to be featured.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., Billerica, Mass., will demonstrate its recently announced Thermo Scientific Niton XL3t Series with geometrically optimized large area drift detector (GOLDD) technology at TMS 2009, Feb. 15-18, Moscone West Convention Center, San Francisco. The company can be found at Booth No. 543.

GOLLD technology is designed to deliver improvements in light element detection, overall sensitivity and measurement times that are as much as 10 times faster than conventional Si-PIN detectors and up to three times more precise than conventional smaller, silicon drift detectors, according to Thermo Fisher Scientific.

The analyzer combines the Niton XL3t’s 50-kilavolt, 2-watt X-ray tube, closely optimized geometry and patented signal processing hardware and software with the company’s proprietary large area drift detector. The analyzer can analyze light elements, such as magnesium, aluminum, silicon, phosphorus and sulfur, without the use of helium or vacuum purging.

"The Niton XL3t with GOLDD technology brings true lab-quality performance to a handheld XRF analyzer. Although it’s easy to use and delivers fast analysis, it is truly a laboratory-quality instrument, and can measure even light elements without helium or vacuum assistance,” says Bob Wopperer, Thermo Fisher director of business development for Thermo Scientific Niton Analyzers. “It is the ideal tool for analyzing metal alloys,” he adds.

The Niton XL3t Series analyzers with GOLDD technology incorporate 80-megahertz real-time digital signal processing and dual embedded processors for computation, data storage, live video processing and communication . It also includes Niton Data Transfer (NDT) Software. The Niton XL3t Series is available in a range of configurations and with an assortment of optional features and accessories to suit a wide variety of analytical needs.

SENNEBOGEN 340G telehandler improves the view in Macon County, NC

An elevated cab is one of several features improving operational efficiency at the Macon County Solid Waste Management agency in North Carolina. When it comes to waste management, efficiency, safety and reliability are priorities driving decisions from day one, according to staff members of the Macon County Solid Waste Management Department in western North Carolina. The agency operates a recycling plant in a facility originally designed to bale incoming materials. More recently, the building has undergone significant transformations centered around one machine: a SENNEBOGEN telehandler (telescopic handler).
