TFC Recycling Reports Sharp Increase in Recyclables Collected

Recycling company says monthly collection level tripled from same time last year.

TFC Recycling, headquartered in Chesapeake, Va., has announced that the volume of recyclables collected through its new bin program in Chesapeake has increased three-fold since the program officially began four months ago.

Chesapeake launched its new curbside recycling efforts in November 2009, distributing 95-gallon bins to 65,091 residents by the end of last year. Each household was added to a TFC Recycling collection route as the bins were received.

For February, 2010, TFC collected 1,125 tons of recyclables from the Chesapeake residents through the bin program. This compares favorably witha the 308 tons of recyclables collected the same time last year when the program was run by another company.

“It is exciting to see the overwhelming response to the convenient big bin program by the residents of Chesapeake,” says Ed Farmer, vice president of business development for TFC Recycling.

The containers are collected bi-weekly.

The company also notes that participation in the collection program has increased as well, with 62 percent of the customers using the service between this past December and February, 2010. This compares with an average participation rate of 34 percent the same time last year.

“Chesapeake residents have spoken loudly that they are willing to do their part to help preserve our natural resources if they are given the proper tools to accomplish the task,” Farmer adds.
