Nominations are now open for the 2007 Texas Environmental Excellence Awards (TEEA). Administered by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), the awards annually pay tribute to projects across the state that helped to reduce waste, prevent pollution and conserve natural resources.
Now in its fourteenth year, the awards “recognize proven initiative and innovation in environmental programs conducted by individuals and communities as well as companies and organizations,” according to a news release from the TCEQ.
Past recipients submitted winning projects that have significantly reduced waste, water consumption, energy use and/or contributed to improved air quality in
“The TCEQ is proud to recognize these efforts because they represent environmental stewardship of the most fundamental, grassroots kind,” says Kathleen Hartnett White, chairman of the TCEQ. “Every year we are consistently gratified to see the high quality of the projects in the applications we receive.”
“The Environmental Excellence awards are a chance for Texans to get to know about the great things other Texans are doing,” says Larry R. Soward, TCEQ commissioner. “TCEQ recognizes those who are doing more than talking about the environment, they’re taking action to make things better.”
For award winners, the public recognition and marketing benefits of winning the award can be significant.
“Winning the Texas Environmental Excellence Award for Small Business has been great for EnviroGLAS,” says Tim Whaley, principal of EnviroGLAS Products Inc. “It has become part of our story. For a customer considering doing business with our small, young company, the award makes a significant impression.”
Applicants may submit nominations in one of 10 categories: Agriculture, Civic/Nonprofit, Education, Government, Individual, Innovative Technology, Large Business/Nontechnical, Large Business/Technical, Small Business, and Youth. Winners will receive the award at the Texas Environmental Excellence Awards banquet in
The deadline to submit applications is November 3, 2006. More information on criteria and online applications can be found at www.teea.org.
