Commissioners in Brewster County, Texas, have voted to join other area groups supporting the efforts to set up regular drop-off point for recyclables in communities throughout the tri-county area, according to a report in The Desert-Mountain Times (Alpine, Texas).
Alpine resident Liz Sibley gave a presentation on behalf of Big Bend Regional Recyclers in support of the proposal.
The group will hold meetings to discuss program details Sunday, Feb. 20, at Front Street Books annex in Alpine. Area residents and those interested in serving as volunteers to staff the drop-off points are welcome to attend.
According to the news item, Sibley said Big Bend Regional Recyclers plans to set up drop-off locations in Alpine, Marfa, Fort Davis and possibly South Brewster County once or twice weekly. Volunteers would sort recyclables, therefore the program would not involve additional costs.
Duncan Disposal has agreed to a six-month trial period for the program, according to The Desert-Mountain Times. Once Duncan’s contract expires in 2006, Big Bend Regional Recyclers hopes to take over curbside and drop-off recycling in Alpine, according to the report. Currently, Alpine residents can recycle paper, cardboard and aluminum through the curbside program. Big Bend hopes to include more types of recyclables should it get the contract.Latest from Recycling Today
