Horsehead Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Horsehead Holding Corp., has announced that it plans to resume zinc recycling operations at its Rockwood, Tenn., facility.
The company says it will restart one of its two kilns in September 2009. Horsehead’s Rockwood operations had previously idled due to the economic downturn.
"A recent upswing in domestic steel production has resulted in a parallel increase in production of electric arc furnace dust, the primary raw material feedstock for our recycling facilities. We remain hopeful that the economy will continue to strengthen as we head toward the fourth quarter of 2009," says Jim Hensler, Horsehead's president and CEO. The company expects to recall approximately 30 employees.
